Another new month begins! Happy April everyone. March went by so fast; it seems like all the months do these days. March was a very successful month for me, being my month and all. I read so many fascinating, captivating books; I can only hope April will be just as successful!

Sometimes, I like to pick a theme for each month’s TBR because well… It’s just fun. However, this month, I find myself being pulled to a variety of random books. So… no specific theme this month! I just NEED to read these books now 🤣

Here’s my April 2024 TBR, friends:

8. The Reappearance of Rachel Price by Holly Jackson

  • Genre: Mystery/Thriller, YA
  • 16 years ago, a girl’s mother disappears. The disappearance has drawn media attention and leads to a documentary being filmed about the case many years later… but then, the girl’s mother REAPPEARS in the midst of filming! Title makes sense.
  • The newest Holly Jackson book has arrived! You best believe it’s already in my hands and ready to be read. This will be my first book of hers outside of the Good Girls Guide to Murder series (a favorite), so I hope I will really enjoy it!

7. On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous by Ocean Vuong

  • Genre: Literary Fiction
  • I have heard so many great things about this book. People say the writing is incredible and the story is heart-wrenching. I bought this book based on those opinions and the very basic premise of this book: This is a letter from a son to a mother who cannot read.

6. The Seven Year Slip by Ashley Poston

  • Genre: Romance
  • I’m reading a romance this month! *screams* However, this one has a twist! There’s some elements of time travel in this one… How to describe it? From what I know, it’s kind of like time manipulation in a magical way. A woman falls in love with a guy but the guy is the version of himself from seven years ago. 🤯

5. Night Film by Marisha Pessl

  • Genre: Mystery/Thriller
  • A woman’s death is ruled a suicide, but a journalist suspects there is more to this case than what’s been revealed. The deceased woman’s father is a horror film director and hasn’t been seen in public for a long time. Our journalist suspects the father’s legacy and connections may have something to do with the girl’s death.
  • There’s mixed media in this story. It’s a mystery/thriller. It’s so over for me (in the best way).

4. A Dowry of Blood by S.T. Gibson

  • Genre: Horror, Fantasy
  • This book is going to bring me out of my comfort zone a bit. I haven’t read too many vampire books because they haven’t always peaked my interest. But this one is apparently LGBT! Already, I love that.
  • This is a story about Dracula’s first bride, Constanta.

3. The Memory Police by Yōko Ogawa

  • Genre: Sci-fi, Literary Fiction
  • Objects are disappearing and the Memory Police want to ensure they stay disappeared and forgotten. Some people CAN recall lost objects, though, and they want to avoid the Memory Police at all costs. This book centers around a novelist and her editor, one of the people who can recall lost objects and needs to hide from the Memory Police.
  • I’ve been wanting to read this book for a LONG time. I became even more intrigued recently when I heard a booktuber describe this book as being different than what she expected.

2. Hell Bent (Alex Stern #2) by Leigh Bardugo

  • Genre: Fantasy, Mystery/thriller, Horror
  • I read Ninth House on a whim last month and I fell in love. I cannot wait to continue the series and read about my new favorite girl, Alex Stern. Alex Stern is so strong and witty… and way smarter than people give her credit for. I love her so much!
  • I’m thinking this sequel will be about a trip to hell to save a friend. I don’t want to give much away, but I already know it’s going to be great.
  1. Cursed Bread by Sophie Mackintosh
  • Genre: Historical Fiction, Horror
  • Based on the real mass poisoning that took place in a small French village in 1951, Cursed Bread revolves around main character Elodie, who is married to a baker, and her experience with a new couple that has come into town. This couple is mysterious and intriguing; it may not be a coincidence that weird things have started to happen since they arrived. Spoiler alert: That bread is totally going to be poisoned and kill everyone.

I’m very excited about this month’s TBR. I’m thinking this time… I might really stick to it! I have so many books in addition to these I want to read and I’m making it my goal to go above and beyond this TBR this month!
