February has come and gone, and spring has almost sprung. I never said I was an amazing poet. Also, It’s my birthday month, so… I’ve decided It’s Kat month! I’m not going to have a specific theme for this month other than reading books I can’t stop thinking about. What kind of books do I love? What kind of books seem to always pull me in? I’m gonna go with that! So there’s going to be a lot of… mysteries/thrillers on this list in addition to books I’ve been meaning to get to for a long time. Here we go!

8 Books I Want to Read This March:

8. The Secret History by Donna Tartt

A group of students are studying Greek at a New England college. Keywords for this book: mystery, murder, corruption. That’s all I know about the book and I’m in. It’s a hefty read, with my copy of the book being just above 550 pages long. I can’t even tell you how excited I am for this; people I follow mostly rate this book 5 stars.

7. In My Dreams I Hold a Knife by Ashley Winstead

Coincidentally, this book also surrounds college students who experience murder and mystery, at least partially. Keywords: dual timelines, college reunion, obsession, secrets. I’m already suspecting there might be an unplanned dark academia theme this month, oops!

6. As Good As Dead (A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder #3) by Holly Jackson

The last book in the Good Girl’s Guide to Murder series! I read the second book in February and I have to know how this story ends, hence the final book being placed in my March TBR. Keywords: young adult, mystery, thriller, crime.

5. The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches by Sangu Mandanna

Witches! Magic! Found Family! There’s even a bit romance. Our main character, Mika, is one of the last witches remaining in Britain and she is asked to train witches to help them control their magic at a place called Nowhere House. Since I was a kid, I have loved all things magic and witches. I think I’m really going to enjoy this one and it’ll be a nice change-up from all the mysteries/thrillers I’ll be reading this month!

4. Emily Wilde’s Map of the Otherlands (Emily Wilde #2) by Heather Fawcett

This is a very recently released sequel to Emily Wilde’s Encyclopaedia of Faeries. Spoiler alert: I immediately fell in love with the first one upon reading it in February and I’m just dying to hear more about Emily’s and Bambleby’s adventures! Keywords: Fae, fantasy, romance, dark academia.

3. Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami

I have been meaning to read a Murakami book for a very, very long time. This book continues to be labeled a classic and has to be his most popular. I have to know what the hype is about and I’m so excited to form my own opinion about Murakami! My first Murakami book in March, wow! Keywords: coming of age, romance, college, magical realism, 1960’s.

2. The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger

Can you believe I haven’t read this classic yet? It’s practically infamous. It’s another book of which I’m dying to form my own opinion. People are really divided with this one as far as whether they like it or dislike it. Keywords: coming of age, classic, New York City, angst, alienation.

1.Monstrilio by Gerardo Sámano Córdova

I can’t make a TBR list centered around it being “Kat Month” and not include a creepy, yet poignant, horror book. I have been wanting to read Monstrilio since it came out. Since then, it’s been nominated for many awards and has received a lot of hype within the book community. Key words: grief, creature feature, child death

Those are my highest priority reads of March; however, I tend to always go off script. Don’t be surprised if next month I reveal that I read some books in March from these honorable mentions:

  • Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery
  • The Seven Year Slip by Ashley Poston
  • Juniper & Thorn by Ava Reid
  • The Sentence by Louise Erdrich
  • Nadja by Andre Breton
  • The Fox Wife by Yangsze Choo
  • Any Agatha Christie book

I wish you all a happy reading month this March! May you read all the books on your March TBR and rate them all five stars (we can only wish)!
